Three AI companions who play their own turns

A tabletop RPG is better with a party: someone to heal you, someone to argue with, someone with a bad idea at the worst moment. In GoblinKnife, three AI companions fill those seats.

From the demo, where the lines are pre-written · in the full game, each companion speaks for itself

You, as HildeGive me my axe and I’ll answer.

Mac, the rogueHuman! I’m Mac, from Clearwater, my mother’s name is Mara, she runs the Copper Kettle—

Sister Isse, the cleric...Human. I think. Your voice— (she stops)

Carlo, the wizardHuman. I fought dragons.

Game masterShe writes the same line for all four of you. For Mac, she writes it more slowly.

Made to fit your character

After you build your character, the game makes the other three, chosen to round out the party. A campaign can shape them too, giving each a past, a secret and a personal story that comes to a head along the way.

They only know what they saw

Each companion is its own character, with a character sheet, a personality and a memory. It knows what happened in front of it at the table, not the game master’s secrets. It also keeps notes on how it feels about the people around it, you included.

In a fight, they act for themselves

On a companion’s turn, it chooses what to do from the moves the rules allow at that moment, and the engine rolls for it. A cleric might heal whoever is in trouble; a rogue might go for the wounded goblin. You don’t manage anyone’s turn but your own.

They talk, and you lead

Companions react to what you do, offer ideas when you’re stuck, and bicker with each other. They support your story without taking it over: outside the big moments, one of them speaks at a time, and never more than the game master.

They can fall

Death saving throws are rolled honestly, for companions too. In The Seventh Waking, a companion can die for real, and the story gives that a quiet moment of its own. Your own character gets one second chance.
